VTG VoiceBridge-II
A Family of Products Designed to Integrate Voice Messaging
Systems with Major PBXs
VoiceBridge has revolutionized the voice messaging industry
by fully integrating a wide range of PBXs with all Centrex
SMDI-compatible voice mail systems. By enhancing both systems,
VoiceBridge provides customers the benefits of reducing cost,
stepping up productivity and improving communication. A fully
integrated voice mail system answers incoming calls with information
taken directly from the PBX.
VoiceBridge supplies the voice mail system with this critical
information. Using this data, the voice mail application can
intelligently answer and handle each incoming telephone call
providing a friendly personalized greeting. This makes the
entire system easier to use for your employees and customers.
Integrating the PBX and voice mail system with VoiceBridge
means that callers will no longer need to type in clumsy mailbox
numbers to leave messages. Integration means that you, the
subscriber, will be notified when new messages are saved in
your mailbox. It also means that your employees will be able
to respond to those messages quickly and easily. A fully integrated
voice messaging systems is a productivity tool that enhances
communications inside and outside of your company.
Other integration solutions, such as interfacing and partial
integration, do not combine the features and capabilities
of VoiceBridge. The VoiceBridge advantage offers a standard
approach with the flexibility to create a variety of integrated
messaging solutions.
VoiceBridge is a growing family of products covering many
popular PBX models including Lucent Technologies System 75/85
& Definity, Siemens Rolm 8000, 9000 & 9751, and Nortel
Sl-1 & Meridian-1.

voice mail.

accepts a command from voice mail and lights the message
lamp on your phone, showing that new messages are waiting

You call VoiceBridge, which automatically logs you in for
direct retrieval of your messages upon completion of the
transaction VoiceBridge turns off your message lamp.
VoiceBridge communicates with the PBX by emulating a digital
station set. Working in conjunction with the PBX, VoiceBridge
is an integrated gateway to the voice mail system. Any call
forwarded or transferred to the VoiceBridge will be routed
to the voice messaging system along with the appropriate integration
information. As a subscriber, just call VoiceBridge to retrieve
your messages. Message lamp sets and clears are handled automatically.
When a call arrives at VoiceBridge, it is routed to an available
voice mail port and the necessary integration data is sent
in a Centrex SMDI format over an RS-232 serial data link.
This data allows the voice mail system to locate the appropriate
mailbox and determine whether that box is to be opened for
message taking or subscriber access. The information is also
used by the voice mail system to "fine-tune" call
answering and handling, the types of spoken greetings presented
to the caller, and the options and actions your caller will
have.
Centrix SMDI Emulation
- All VoiceBridge units provide industry-standard Centrex
SMDI protocol. This offers maximum compatibility with existing
voice mail systems.
Operator Revert
- Once integration is complete, the analog voice port supervises
the call and voice mail can revert or transfer to any extension
with a flash-hook sequence.

Voice Ports
- VoiceBridge units typically support from 12 to 24 ports,
monitoring the availability of these ports and managing
calls transferred to them. Once the transfer is complete,
the VoiceBridge is no longer attached to the call. For larger
systems, simply network additional VoiceBridge units.
Call Queue
- The PBX allows up to 8 simultaneous calls to appear on
the call appearance buttons. These call appearances act
as a queue for incoming calls. Each call is serviced separately
in order of appearance. Once VoiceBridge transfers a call
to the next available voice port, a new position is open
in the queue.
Message Waiting Indication (MWI)
- VoiceBridge uses the PBX's message notification features
to illuminate lamps or provide stutter dialtone on any properly
equipped digital or analog station set. MWI sets and clears
are performed as a background task when VoiceBridge has
idle time.
Automated Attendant
- Automated Attendant applications are enhanced and optimized
when VoiceBridge is used since time-consuming supervised
transfers are on longer required to integrate calls. Since
Automated Attendant can process all calls as blind transfers,
the application can now service more incoming calls per
hour.
