Most voice processing systems interface with most
telephone systems. An interface is the basic capability
of a voice processing system to work with your telephone
system. However, simple interfaces often limit the
functions of voice processing systems.
Check to see if the systems you evaluate will integrate
with your telephone system. Integration between a
voice processing system and a telephone system allows
them to share important information that lets you
get the most out of both systems. Full "integration"
allows functions such as:
- Set/cancel message-waiting indicators - Allows
system users to see or hear when they have a new
message.
- Call forward to a personal greeting - Automatically
forwards calls to a mailbox greeting on a ring-no-answer,
busy, or "all" condition.
- Escape to operator - Allows a caller in the voice
processing system to transfer to a telephone operator
at any time.
Make sure the integration features offered by a voice
processing system meet the needs of your business.
You probably would not need to buy a new telephone
system if you purchase a voice processing system.
However, you may want to ask your consultant for a
telecommunications evaluation. You may find that not
only is the system used ineffectively, but the system
itself no longer meets the needs of your company.
