The VoiceMemo II Modular Growth Concept

A typical VoiceMemo II module consists of a single hard drive, a single CPU, and a set of line cards. The drive interfaces with the CPU and the line cards via a SCSI bus.

We have extended the SCSI bus to accommodate additional devices, which might be hard drives or "hosts" (a host is a CPU and a set of line cards).

We have also added another bus, called MESA-Link. MESA-Link allows CPU-to-CPU communication of basic control information, allowing any line card access to any disk drive, anytime. Any call on any port can retrieve any information from any disk drive -- directly and instantaneously. That means rapid system response, no matter how large the system or how many callers.
